Learning outcomes of the course unit:

The course aim is to introduce students to pair dance principles, in classical academic dance and in the area of contemporary dance. Emphasis lies in the management of partner dance technique.

Mode of study:

Practice exercises, recording sample analysis

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

A good knowledge of dance technique (classical and modern) is necessary.

Recommended optional programme components:

No elective requirements.

Course contents:

Prinicples of partner technique on the floor:

elements executed with a two-handed hold at the waist (releve, phrase elements such as glissande, pas balance, developpe, grand rond de jambe, passe, grand port de bras, small and grand posses, various types of turns, promenade, pirouettes, holds in oblique positions and poses.

single-hand holds

Principles of lifts and holding a partner in the air, small jumps and lifting the partner to chest and should heights

partner jumps with two-hand holds at the waist, with two hand holds, combined forms of holds, partner jumps with single hand holds, low lifts

Practice of examples from classic ballet repertoire, creation of one's own etude.
