The student must study libretto of an opera „Jenufa“, become acquainted with the period environment, surroundings, period and overall climate of the story which will influence the exterior (costuming, set, props, weapons), and internal actions of the duet dancers (conflict, psychological bonds, emotions, influence of the period on the behaviour of people, folk tradions). It is the students choice of music for their choreography. The basic approach to the topic must be similar as in the presented example.
The student studies their choreography with the dancers and presents it on stage in simple but functional and meaningful costumes and settings.
Also, each student is required to study choreography samples inspired by period social dances at the turn of the 19th to 20th century. This is three etudes: Grand Viennese Waltz, French Can-can and the Charleston.
Students prepare a dance floor movement plan, arranges the period music recording, announces the period tastes, fashions and prepares an example with the use of the dance style elements.
