B. Limon-Cunningham combined dance technique

Winter semester:

instruction in basic exercises and simple dance variations in place which practice this dance technique with an emphasis on the alternation of muscle tension and relaxation and proper breathing. We exercise individual parts of the body separately. I create and instruct proper posture exercises, foot movement, placement of the hips in parallel and turned positions, working with the trunk and spine, guiding successional arms, use of head weight, trunk, pelvis

Summer semester:

Instruction of more complex movement phrases and joining movements of individual parts of the body into an overall movement of the whole body in coordination. We use the weight of the head, arms, trunk and pelvis or legs with the use of gravity in a spatial movement.

The Cunningham technique is based on precise movement form and working with the body.

Winter semester

Instruction in basic exercises gradually from the warm-up of the back, feet, legs and arms in continuous M. Cunningham exercises (ex: 6t exercises) and simple movments in a space (ex: tripplett).

Summer semester:

Instruction in more complex and longer movement phrases in place and in a space. Arrangement of small and large jumps (leaps, skips)

Instruction in one lesson of both techniques is intentional because the supplement each other.

The Limon techniqe teaches so called dance ability of the body so there is an alternation of muscle tension and relaxation. The Cunningham technique places demands on posture, precise body placement and that of its parts in a space for better awareness of dancer movement. It trains the muscles necessary for healthy and proper movement and dance, joining thought and developing movement intelligence.
