Learning outcomes of the course unit:

Songs are, undoubtedly, one of the most important genres or original theatre, either in a „large dramaturgy“ or one of the „small forms.“ Its communication, emotion, ability to create an atmosphere and evoke association - this makes it attractive dramaturgically. Of course one needs to know its forms and potential and know how to manage them. Song Dramaturgy 1 should help contribute to this.

Mode of study:

Lecture with samples and classes in which students encounter (either live or on recording) songs from the oldest to the most current. Particularly those used in theatre, film and radio plays. Emphasis is placed on the art of listening to not only the text but music as well. In the text is to be recognized the so-called content but also the music quality. The pillars of these classes are the history of Czech songs and relationship to the European and American.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Its advantageous when the student simultaneously attends a Song Interpretation workshop as well. An overview of the general history of theatre is required.

No elective requirements.

Course contents:

Uncovering the dramatic, dramaturgic and stage potential of a song in numerous forms.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods:

There is always an informational (short introductory lecture), after which takes in examples (listening to recordings) and discussions in which come to light if the students are able to listen and in the listening recognize and put it into the context of a theatre form.

Assessment methods and criteria:

This course is an elective, open to students from other departments and faculties (Theatrology, Doctoral candidates and the like regularly attend the course, for example). Recognition of completion is by the award of credit.
