To introduce students to the history of clothing as one of the basic sources of inspiration for costuming.

Monitoring the development of basic fashion forms and textiles in relationship to the political, cultural and social development of society from ancient civilization to the 20th century. A rich visual presentation is part of instruction.

A study of ancient civilizations. Influences of the late antique on the formation of the lifestyle of early christian Europe and clothing in relation to the development of Medieval society to the late period. The Renaissance, a period of great political and social events bringing fundamental changes in clothing in various parts of Europe. Fashions of the 30-years War and the high Baroque presented, mainly, through clothing of French provenience, as well in the Rokoko. Beginning influences of the English clothing style. Fundamental changes caused by the French Revolution at the end of the 18th century and subsequent development in the 19th century in relation to the development of industry and burgher society. Clothing of the 20th century presented through creative figures in world fashion and the particulars of the Czech environment, mainly, after 1948.
Antiquity: Mezopotamia, Egypt, Greece, Rome, Barbarian nations
Medieval: European clothing in early, high and late periods
Modernity: Clothing of the Renaissance, Baroque, Rokoko and developmental phases of the 19th and 20th centuries.
