Learning outcomes of the course unit:

Introduction to some fundamental theory essays on fine arts and set design with particular regard towards costuming.

History of the Prague Quadriennale 1967-2007 and exhibiting costume designers.

Mode of study:

Course on selected master's project topics.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

DSK 1,2 lectures.

Recommended optional programme components:

Visits to contemporary productions and subsequent analysis from a scenic design viewpoint.

Course contents:

Preparation of the theory paper with consideration of the source material related to the selected costuming topic. History of a developed production in the Czech Republic and around the world. Investigation of parallels and sources of inspiration. Critical reviews of a given production.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods:

Visits to fine arts exhibits with an emphasis on clothing and and costuming creations. Excursions to the National Museum, Theatre Dept. costume depository.

Assessment methods and criteria:

75% lecture and class attendance. Independent creation of the course paper (approx. 25 pages of text).
