- Learning outcomes of the course unit:

1. Introduce critical reading of theory texts.
2. To provoke and cultivate independent consideration of theory texts.
3. To cultivate the ability to formulate issues in a the clearest light, precisely, and in a wide context, primarily in the context of knowledge of the current humanities.

Discussion, concept interpretation, text reading and analysis, production recordings analysis when necessary.

- Course contents:

1. Critical readings of assigned theory writings
2. Group discussions of writings from the viewpoint of their „content“, the issues which which the writings contain and from the viewpoint of the manner of articulation (from the viewpoint of „form“).
3. Discussions on the selected readings no only in the context of contemporary theatre theory but in relationship to the development of other arts research and by extension context of the latest knowledge of all contemporary social sciences.
4. Independent course paper on a selected topic in theatre theory.

Grades and credit are awarded based a minimum of 80% lecture participation which is a condition for sitting the exam. Grading is done upon completion of the lecture cycle with the submission of a written review, which the student writes on a defined theatre - theory issue topic. Grading continues with the subsequent oral exam.
