Learning outcomes of the course unit:

To acquaint students - non-dancers - with the movement and dance basics of American Modern Dance /M. Graham, J. Limon/ and link those principles to various movement variations and phrases. An ability to use „falls“, rotations, spiral movements /bend/, jumps to falls, contractions and extensions, swing exercises with breath emphasis in order that they are natural and adequate for any situation - not only dance.

For the application of some elements, it is important to know how to join the step, rhythm and isolation movements of Jazz dance.

Mode of study:

Instruction is through exercises ising examples from recorded dances - screenings.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Principles of modern dance technique of Martha Graham and Jose Limon. Jazz expressive elements primarily in dance step variations and choreography sequences.

Recommended optional programme components:

No elective requirements.
