Learning outcomes of the course unit:

Students are acquainted with current procedures and trends in digital film and television post-production.

Mode of study:

The lecture aims are to introduce current approaches and trends in digital film and television post-production. The lectures will be supported by digital post-production samples in the UPP Studio. Part of instruction are the qualitative and economic comparisons of classical and modern digital film post-production processes including an analysis of typical full-length digital film post-production budgets.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Fundamental knowledge of AVD production technology.

1) Introduction class - "Production post-production

2) Digital Film Labs - principles

- a diagram of DFL

- comparison of classical optical development versus DFL

- advantages of DFL

- sources/results/one's own processing

3) Digital Film Labs - sources/output

- Sources (video/film/animation?..)

- Output (35mm, HD)

4) Digital Film Labs - on-line film processing

- Samples of HD/2K film processing

5) Digital film quality - screening at Cinema MAT

- Screening samples of digitally processed film

- Data flow/image quality/when and how to use it?

6) Digital Film Labs - budgeting

- budget structure

- post-production scheduling

- post-production securing

- post-production coordinator

- VFX supervisor

- Post-production studio - organization
