Learning outcomes of the course unit:

To introduce students to the fundamentals of communication skills. To improve the authenticity of their presentation. To reinforce general verbal and non-verbal skills. To learn the basics of perception, listening and critical thought in interpersonal communications.

Mode of study:

Active participation and discussions with the instructor. Student creativity.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Ability to hear and perceive of public orations, analyse basic communication elements. Creativity and abilities in preparations for public orations, creativity and openness to new impetuses.

General overview of the particulars in various societies and cultures.

Course contents:

Communication skills: verbal and non-verbal communication, perception, intrapersonal and interpersonal communications, cultural influences on communication, art of listening, critical thinking in communication, ethics of communication, basics of media communication, emotional intelligence and social behaviour.

Credit is awarded based on completion of a short case study of a defined communication topic and class participation (80% attendance).
