- Martin STECKER
- Learning outcomes of the course unit:
-
The course aim is to introduce students to the physical fundamentals of the study with examples of completed tasks. As well students adopt manners of using the Photography Dept. equipment.
- Mode of study:
-
In model situations students learn to photographically process the surface of an object from the viewpoint of sharpness and proper lighting and potential for using Scheimpflug conditions in practice. Further covered is the depiction of object spaces from the viewpoint of lighting, ration between the main and supplemental lighting, measurement of the extent of the scene and mastery of line restitution in practice.
- Prerequisites and co-requisites:
-
No knowledge requirements.
- Recommended optional programme components:
- Course contents:
-
1. Day and artificial light, types of lights, basic principles, character change potential and managing lighting. Advantages of individual systems.
2. Basics of exponometry, photometric units, various types of measuring devices, their advantages, manners of measurement and management, luminance extent of a scene, exponometric aids.
3. Basic types of photographic equipment, their construction, advantages and use.
Practical work with a Sinar camera:
completion of 1 reproduction under glass with grey and color wedges, examples of color transfer to a B/W skale, defining the proper exposure and samples of developing manners for 6x9cm.
Submitted:
1 enlargement 24x30cm
4. lens construction and their defects, resolution, extreme potential of school lenses, field of focus, resolution capabilities.
Practical section: 1 photo of the structure of the surface of an object with Scheimpflug conditions and developing 9x12cm film.
Submitted:
1 Enlargement 30x40cm
5. Perspective and focal distance, comparing perpendiculars - restitution, establishing the lighting range of a scene in the studio
Practical section:
1 photo composition of a geometric object with a difference in lighting individual surfaces 1 EV and precision use of restitution perpendiculars. The photo will be completed with a Sinar 18x24cm Camera
1 photo of a geometric object, the rules of the previous photo may be broken according to one's own consideration. Photos will be on a roll of 6x9cm film.
Submitted:
1 contact sheet 18x24cm
1 photo 30x40cm
