Learning outcomes of the course unit:

Introduction to the issues of modern life in the space of Wenceslas Square in a historic context with an explanation of its function and importance. To be aware of the potential of various manners of documentary recording of the most significant situations and events which are typical for Wenceslas Square. Creation of an original documentary collections, discussion over the with consideration of an appropriate manner of exhibition.

Mode of study:

Introduction to present issues regarding Václavského náměstí.

Group commentated walk around Václavského náměstí

Group analysis of the presented explication.

Independent student work on a photograph collection according to the approved explication.

Individual consultations during work on the collection and group discussions.

Commission selection of photographs which are determined for exhibition and assessment.

Place and time: Begins 22. 2. 2011, 17:30, Na příkopě 388/1, Praha 1 - (Na Můstku building at the subway entrance), Cushman&Wakefield, 4th floor.

Credit: 3 credits for participation and submission of a collection of photos according to the assignment.

Summary:

Photographic review of Wenceslas Square and surroundings which creatively captures its contemporary appearance and social life. The project is implemented in cooperation and with the support of the Prague New Town Association. The result will be a photography exhibition on panels installed at the upper part of Wenceslas square from 1.9 to 30.9.2011. Financial contributions will be made for the photographing and the best collections will be awarded.

22.2.2011 - Definition of assignment and possible approach to the topic. Samples of photos from previous years. A schedule of work process on the project and defined manners of processing for presentation at the exhibition. Introduction to the space of Wenceslas Square and its current issues.

During the implementation several meetings will take place focus, primarily, on the consultations on the photos and discussion of photography issues. The times of these meetings will be agreed upon at the introductory meeting.

1.6.2011 - Submission of work and ending of the module.

22.6.2011 - Selection of photographs and awards for best collection

7.9.2011 - Opening on Wenceslas Square.
