Course description:
Project is focused on the investigation of impressions of the past in today's landscape and the fate and appearance of communities destroyed or which have disappeared after 1945 through the influence of the evacuation of the German population, through artificial settling, creation of a border zone (Šumava, Novohradsko), military zones (Slavkovsky Les region) or for mining activity (Mostecko, Chomutovsko). The selection of community will be done in order to record various negative interventions of man from the devastation of the hitorical character of the community through demolition or unsuitable construction to communities in extinction, in which some remains in nature are minimally noticable. Contemporary photography will be compared to period maps and old photos.
Project is based on a common learning of this history, searching for its impressions in the landscape. Photographing locations will be based on a thorough acquaintance with the location and landscape. Therefore, prior to photographing will be a journey around the landscape and a stay in it. In this manner and working with archive material, we will attempt to penetrate the understanding of the location and its fate. Photos will be one of the documentation manners of the contemporary situation.
As and introductio nto issues will be an excursion to the Novohradsky mountain region, where, after the Second World War, many settlements became extinct and the entire region changed where occurred the expulsion of the original, predominantly, German population, unsuccessfull resettling and finally the creation of a border zone, for which many settlements were finally destroyed. In those communities, most of those regions have small traces (Terčí Hut', Stříbrné Hutě, Janovy Hutě, Lukov, Jiřice, Zlata Ktiš, Horní and Dolní Příbraní and others). Some communities were devastated and only parts remain which eloquently bear witness to their fate, which they experienced (Pohoří na Šumavě, Cetviny and others).
Project will be completed with a exhibition in Boskovice in July 2011. In the final phase questions on the selection of photos, appropriate exhibition adjustment and overall presentation will be dealt with together.
