Learning outcomes of the course unit:

The aim is to introduce the development of European classical music from the beginning of the 20th century to the present.

Mode of study:

Uvedení faktografických údajů k probírané tematice, poslech a rozbor hudebních, případně i AV ukázek, diskuse.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Basic good orientation in classical music.

2/ New Music projects. F Busoni and his „Sketch of a New Aesthetic of Music“, destruction of traditional music forms, use of non-traditional music instruments and sound sources.

3/ Atonality and dodecaphonics, Expressionism - A. Schoenberg, A. Berg, A Webern

4/ Pre-revolution Russia - from Scriabin through Stravisky, Prokofiev, Medtnera and others.

5/ The Paris Six - Honegger, Milhaud, Poulenc, Auric, Tailleferre, Durey.

7/ E. Varese - The Electronic Poem

8/ B. Bartok, B. Britten, O. Messiaen

9/ J.B. Foerster, V. Novák, L. Janáček, B. Martinů

11/ W. Lutoslavski, K. Penderecki, G. Ligeti

12/ Minimalism, inspiration from Jazz and oriental music
