Learning outcomes of the course unit:

The aim is to impart a concentrated core of practical experience with the conception and implementation of the sound component of a documentary film.

Mode of study:

Lectures with examples.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Fundamental knowledge of sound dramaturgy and sound creation. A requirement is completion of the courses, „Sound and Music Dramaturgy of an AV Work“ and „Sound Creation 1 & 2“.

Course contents:

The course provides insight into sound design from the perspective of the specific genre of documentary film. The lectures are combined with video excerpts and freely proceed to discussions on the problems and potential of sound design in documentary film. The objective is to present students with a concentrated sum of information and practical advice on procedures in recording and processing sound and in the design of sound dramaturgy in this film genre.

Selected documentary film and television works serve as study material.
