Learning outcomes of the course unit:

a) Be able to consider the abilities of the audience to decode the image expression and be able to self reflect upon audience reaction.

b) Investigate visualized acting actions and reactions (situations) serving a consistent whole.

c) Investigate the most appropriate processes for a literary based script.

Mode of study:

Dialogues, discussions, analyses of other writers' works, film presentations.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Required fundamental qualifications:

- proof of animation abilities and present prior writing, scriptwriting and directorial performance.

- concurrent registration to other courses is not required but work with a storyboard is recommended.

Recommended optional programme components:

No prerequisites.

Course contents:

This is a course for 3rd-year Bachelor's students in the Animation dept. but also for other interested in refining skills in image expression, achievable primarily under the production conditions of FAMU. Possible coproduction with more advanced workplaces.

Recommended or required reading:

a) Animated films by Czech creators: Barta, Pojar, Švankmajer, Trnka, Zeman

b) „Fundamentals of Editing Composition“ J. Valušiak

c) Types of sound compositions in animated film (bachelor work of Sound dept. students see the library)

Planned learning activities and teaching methods:

Assessment methods and criteria:

A dialogue between the student and the instructor about a storyboard, and collective classroom discussions. The active approach towards the „dramatic position of a work“ and ability to work on a film with a decisive idea about its sound. The instructor awards credit.
