Making of .....Fantastic Mr. Fox.

The classis is lead by designer Felicie Haymoz and animator Elie Chapuis, who describe and specify two production phases of the film Fantastic Mr. Fox - the genesis of a figure (puppet) and its animation. The director, Wes Anderson in both cases was inspired by the picture by Vladislav Starevich's novel about foxes (Le Roman de Renard, 1930) and decided on hand stop-motion animation. The class is linked to the topic of role traditions in contemporary animation and the success of the film Fantastic Mr. Fox clearly demonstrates that the tradition still has its place in contemporary animation. Felice Haymoz, who designed the figure, demonstrates how her idea developed and explains how the puppet was made. Elie Chapuis describes the shooting process itself and her presentation is supplemented by film samples. There will be space for discussion during the class and the during the festival the complete version of Fantastic Mr. Fox will be screened.

Master-class Joanna Quinn - Life Drawing for animation

Joanna Quinn, a prominent figure in animation, in graphic examples, explains the process of her creations from characteristic sketches and drawings to the final animation. The creator of the provocative pictures with social topics, representing women's sensual animation, established herself with her graduation film Girls Night Out (1986) with which she walked away with three awards in Annecy. This is the first time the creator's alter ego, Beryl - a middle-aged worman which the filmmaker depicts the destiny of modern women. A distinctive artistic signature, humurous exaggeration and headlong animation is visible in others of Quinn's pictures which regularly win awards at a wide range of festivals. To name a few: Body Beautiful (1990), Britannia (1993), or Wife of Bath (1998). Her works have today piqued the interest of the feminist movement an gender studies academic circles.

Grandpa Cactus - joining of 3D animation with feature film.

A short film by Antonio Cacto Reviejo de la Tebaida - Grandpa Cactus is the developed project by director Jan Bubeníčka. The film arose from a combination of classical feature film and modern computer technology. The animated character Grandpa Antonio has an equal role to that of the main feature role - Josef (Jan Budař). In the film we go from the real environment of Josef's flat to Antonio's world created in a computer and back without the viewer noticing the difference. The computer effects are linked to the „real“ shooting as much as possible in order that the result is compact and believable. The film image takes from the B/W poetry of film noir. The project creative team will show shots from the prepared film and explain in graphic examples how the film came about. They will explain, how to prepare the basis for the use of computer post-production during the live shooting. The will present preparations for the shooting material for 3D animation, processes for moving characters and modeling 3d environments and their connection in feature film.
