Learning outcomes of the course unit:

The workshop is preferably designed to DOPs, directors and editors, who will work with remarkable Czech choreographers; however, it?s open to everyone with interest in dance film perspective. The goal of the workshop is to present different film approaches to dance in such a way that adds a new visual and content-based quality. This experience discovered practically during the module can be appreciated later not only when directing a narrative film, but especially when creating music clips, experimental films etc.

Participants should create teams and the basic idea of the film already before the tutors arrival. In order to fulfil this condition, there will be an opening seminar by Eric Rosenzveig on 15th February, where the teams will be settled and the principles of cooperation will be clarified. Annotation:

David Hinton is one of the most celebrated directors working in dance film today and has worked with some of the best known names in contemporary dance including DV8 Physical Theatre, Siobhan Davies, Wendy Houston and Russell Maliphant. His films were won many prizes, among others Prix Italia (Strange Fish, 1994) or Dioraphte Cinedans (Nora, 2010).

The first day of the module will be devoted to teaching, screenings, discussions and exercises. Then, over the next five days, participants make their own short dance films (of 3-5 minutes) guided and supervised by David Hinton in all the phases of the creation: script, storyboard, shooting and editing. The participants will work in groups; each group will create a short dance film. The workshop ends with a screening of the finished films ? this will happen on 21st April in Bio OKO as a part of the Dance Film Festival.

Technical equipment (HDV Z1 cameras, editing rooms) are provided by Studio FAMU. Participants should create teams and the basic idea of the film already before the tutors arrival.
