As a result of this seminar the successful participant will have a more complete vocabulary of the overall motion picture process. In particular the participant will have a thorough understanding of the methods, both technological and creative, used by all film makers to turn the written word into a meaningful visual and auditory experience.

Having taken useful notes the participant will be able to see how their own work, in any job in the industry, fits into post production and more importantly, they will understand that every job does.

The objective of this seminar is to explore the importance of the role that post production plays in the development and creation of a motion picture or television program. In particular the position of the Post Production Supervisor or Post Production Producer will be used to illustrate the delicate balance between the business of motion pictures and television, the technology of film and digital media and the creative process of storytelling.

Obsah kurzu:

Participants will explore the post production process in practical, day-by-day terms from Pre-Production to Delivery. Attention will be given to the various technologies involved in modern digital motion pictures and how those technologies can be made to contribute to the writer?s intent, the director?s vision and the producer?s responsibilities. The role of the editorial department as well as visual effects, sound and music departments will be explored to show the contributions each must make to a meaningful entertainment experience.

Class participation will be the basis for assessment of the participants. The personal involvement of the students in the seminar will not only help focus the presentation on the core needs of a diverse group but will increase the value of the information given by concentrating the dialogue on key points of understanding or mis-understanding.

David Dewar?s adventures in entertainment span the worlds of feature films, television and the professional theatre. He has produced, directed and written for television at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and has produced drama for The Disney Channel, Showtime, Nickelodeon, Lifetime and Space.

Feature film credits as Post Production Supervisor include: Girl In Progress(Lionsgate), Far From Home(20thCentury Fox), Bordello of Blood(Universal) and Arctic Blue(Columbia/Tristar). As Coordinating Producer his credits include the TV series? First Wave(Space/Sci Fi), So Weird(Disney) and Dead Man?s Gun(Showtime). TV Post Production credits include the mini-series? Seven Deadly Sins(Lifetime) and Impact(ABC) and other series projects such as, Shattered(Global), Jpod(CBC) and The Collector(CHUM) along with numerous television movies. He is currently Post Production Supervisor on Crossing Lines, Season II(NBC, TF1)

Mr. Dewar is a member in three categories of the Director?s Guild of Canada as Director, First AD and Unit Manager and is past Chairman of the BC Motion Picture Association. He has also served on the Board of the Centre For Image and Sound Research and is a member of the Faculty of Theatre at Douglas College. Publications include, ?PostAge, A Handbook of Film and Television Post Production?. He has lectured in film and television production and post-production at the University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser University the National Screen Institute and the Vancouver International Film Festival.
