Profil oboru:

The Bachelor?s programme is conceived as an artistic programme for graduates of secondary schools (conservatories, academic high schools, arts schools, etc.) who have movement abilities, creative potential and talent prerequisites at the required level. The basic focus is to train students to do independent and team creative work in these three core subjects:

1. Modern Imaginary Pantomime ? Pantomime and Body Mime

2. Clownery and Grotesque

3. Fundamentals of Authorial Creation

Students focus on the basic styles of mime theatre (subjects 1 and 2) and become familiar with the fundamentals of authorial creation (subject 3). They are led to the opportunity, within the selected style, to find their own path of further artistic development and to find their own distinctive expression, which they can apply in authorial mime performances at a professional level.

The other subjects focus on the fundamentals of circus artistry and the history and theory of theatre with emphasis on interpretive grounding in the field of mime theatre.

Graduates become professional artists who have a specific focus but can apply their skills in all genres of mime theatre as performers with the basic grounding to create authorial works in this field with crossover into other theatrical genres.

Key learning outcomes:

During the course of the Bachelor?s programme, students acquire the fundamentals of creative work in mime theatre with emphasis on interpretation from both theoretical and practical perspectives. They learn to control their bodies and to deepen their knowledge and skills in movement.

Occupational profiles of graduates with examples:

A graduate of the Bachelor?s programme in Pantomime at HAMU is capable of independent professional creative and interpretive work within the basic genres of mime theatre and modern circus. He or she must know how to connect classical and modern technical approaches and means of mime theatre and modern circus with an aesthetic aspect and individual creativity in interpretation. Graduates can apply their skills as mimes or actors in Czech and foreign movement theatre and modern circus troupes, cultural organisations requiring professional work with the body, and in the social sphere and other areas of work, e.g. as health clowns, specialised workers, pedagogues at arts schools (e.g. in the field of drama).

Access to further studies:

The continuing programme in the field of Pantomime at HAMU.

Examination regulations, assessment and grading:

Fulfilment of the study plan is verified with the help of an electronic system, into which are also entered the final assessments necessary for completing individual subjects. The study of a subject then culminates with the awarding of a credit or by sitting for an examination.

The credit as an ungraded form of assessment is awarded upon fulfilment of requirements stipulated for individual subjects with the word „Credited“ (Z). Examinations may be practical, oral, written, or involve a combination of these methods, and are graded on the scale „A, B, C, D, E, F“. The student is entitled to a second and third attempt to pass an examination. In exceptional cases, a fourth attempt may be requested and must be approved by the Dean of the faculty. A fourth attempt to pass an examination takes place before an examination committee. It is not permitted to repeat an examination for the main subjects, which are also by commission.

Graduation requirements:

The student fulfils the requirements set by the study plan.

The student passes the final state examination in the core subjects announced by the Dean. These subjects are: Chapters in the History of Pantomime (Bachelor?s), and Psychology of Mime, and Gesture and Dramaturgy in Authorial Theatre (Master?s).

Students realise a practical diploma task (an authorial project) in the area of mime theatre in an extent per the Dean?s announcement, and elaborate a supplemental written work with a minimum length as defined by the Rector. Their defence is part of the state final examination.
