- Profil oboru:
-
The programme in directing and dramaturgy is based on a refined and tested instructional methodology which is built on a unique system of cooperation between students and pedagogues according to the model of a small professional repertory theatre. From the beginning, students are led to intensive team cooperation and become acquainted - on both theoretical and practical levels - with the individual professions necessary for the creation of a collective theatrical work. This is why at the Bachelor`s level the programme in directing and dramaturgy is organised collectively, and students also undergo basic training in acting. Students have a range of subjects which develop aptitudes for the selected field, and also go through a cycle of lectures and seminars in theory and history. The gradual mastery of increasingly complicated and demanding tasks culminates in the preparation and learning of the Bachelor`s staging in the extent of an individual play and its subsequent reflection.
- Key learning outcomes:
-
After completing the Bachelor`s programme, students of directing and dramaturgy should be well-equipped technically for their professions and should have mastered a wide spectrum of skills and knowledge in the theory and history of their field in connection with the development of world art and history generally. They should be oriented in the broad domestic and foreign context, and be able to interpret contemporary theatre and their own experience with it in a creative manner. The goal of the instruction is to cultivate and support strong and original personalities with a unique view of the world, a great degree of self-reflection and the capability of further independent personal maturation and artistic development.
- Occupational profiles of graduates with examples:
-
A graduate of the Bachelor`s programme in directing and dramaturgy is an all-round expert capable of developing his/her artistic abilities in the Master`s programme, or he/she can engage straightaway in activities connected with dramatic arts and related audio-visual activities at an appropriate professional level, i.e. enter practice and apply his/her skills as a lecturer in dramaturgy, assistant director, editor, or work in theatre or other media in the area of PR, in the production and management sphere, etc.
- Access to further studies:
-
After successful completion of the Bachelor`s examination, the student can continue on to further education in the Master`s programme in directing and dramaturgy at DAMU or at another school of similar type and focus in the Czech Republic or abroad.
- Examination regulations, assessment and grading:
-
At the end of each semester, students` knowledge and skills are assessed with credits and examinations stipulated by study plans, and the student is informed of these through the information system (KOS). The organisation and form of credits and examinations is precisely stipulated by the AMU Attendance and Examination Regulations (Article 15). It is not permitted to repeat an examination for the main artistic subjects, where the grade F (especially in the first year) expresses insufficient student aptitudes of talent, creativity or diligence, which could not be identified during the admissions process. A quantitative metric is ECTS (European Credit Transfer System), which enables the transfer of credits within the ERASMUS exchange programme of European theatre schools.
- Graduation requirements:
-
A condition for advancement to the Bachelor`s examination is fulfilment of all requirements following from study plans, successful completion of the Bachelor`s production, and its reflection in the written Bachelor`s thesis. The State Bachelor`s Examination consists of an assessment of an artistic performance, defence of the Bachelor`s thesis and an examination on pre-assigned questions on the history and theory of theatre and the field taken before an examination commission composed of internal pedagogues as well as external experts in a given area.
