Admission requirements consist of the demonstration of theoretical knowledge commensurate with the education provided by the completed Bachelor?s programme in the Camerawork Department, as well as the documentation of specialist practical abilities by means of a portfolio of film work where the candidate worked as the main cameraman and which can be recognised as equivalent to the field exercises of the Bachelor's programme in the Camerawork Department The candidate further presents the Master?s project, with which he/she demonstrates a thoughtful and responsible approach to realising the Master?s programme.

The procedure for recognition at AMU is governed by Articles 89 and 90 of the Act on Higher Education Institutions No. 111/1998 Coll., as amended, and by the AMU Attendance and Examination Regulations (Articles 8, 14, 18).

Required qualifications: Completed university education in a Bachelor?s programme in the field of Camerawork.
Regulations: The Czech education system is governed by the Act on Higher Education Institutions, as amended (Act No. 111/1998 Coll.), and by the internal regulations of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague.

The Master?s programme is fully focused on performing the conceptual camerawork of narrative and non-narrative cinematography. The professional education is wider in the quantity and quality of practical tasks and consultations within the scope of serious graduate projects executed with students of other Master?s classes. Also important is the student?s own individual production, leading directly to the graduate Master?s work. The Master?s programme further provides education in above-standard and developmental cinematographic techniques and technologies within the scope of the practical work performed at workplaces in professional practice. The general education in the humanities and art history culminates with the relevant subjects on a level commensurate with the Master?s programme, the composition of which is recommended by the department. The graduate generally presents a compelling portfolio of artistic works in the area of classical (film) and electronic (digital) cinematography, and defends the diploma task.

The graduate of the Master?s programme in FAMU?s Camerawork Department is prepared for the profession of cameraman at a high level of technique, expertise and artistic expression, and is capable of shooting documentary as well as dramatic film and television genres. He/she becomes a leading film or television cameraman. He/she has mastered stylisation and visual tools at a high level, and independently and creatively transforms inspirational influences ? the cinematographic picture versus the artistic work, the performance of camerawork versus the service of a drama. He/she has mastered the technologies of photochemical, electronic and digital cinematography at a high level, and is capable of reacting flexibly to current technological developments.
He/she takes responsibility for the socio-ethical impact of the work, which he/she co-creates with a view to the basic function of camerawork, which is a service to elaborated material. He/she is capable of accommodating the director?s personality and ideas, and of contributing to the realisation of the work with the help of current artistic and technological skills. He/she is capable of creative absorption and consensual communication with the other members of the production crew?s organisational and artistic components.

A graduate of the Master?s programme in the field of camerawork is prepared to become a creative partner of the director, creatively handling according to the character of the work all visual and overall dramaturgical conceptual tasks. A graduate of the two-year Master?s programme in FAMU?s Camerawork Department becomes a professionally mature main cameraman for dramatic television works and a cameraman for acted feature, documentary or animated films with no small amount of practical experience. A graduate of the Master?s programme in the field of camerawork is able to undertake his/her own theoretical work and to publish the results of his/her creative or technological practice in written or other form in public.

- Examination regulations, assessment and grading:

Studies are assessed by credits and examinations stipulated by study plans. The student is informed of these through the information system.
The student registers for examinations using the information system, and is entitled to a second and third attempt to pass an examination. If neither of these attempts proves successful, the Dean may in exceptional cases permit a fourth attempt (administered by a commission). It is not permitted to repeat an examination for the main subjects or to repeat written examinations.
The credit is an ungraded form of assessment of studies. It is allocated upon fulfilment of requirements stipulated for individual subjects and is recorded in the information system with the word ?Credited? (Z). An examination is a graded form of assessment of studies, which tests knowledge and level of creativity in the relevant subject. In the main subjects, examinations are administered by a commission. An examination may be practical, written, oral, or involve a combination of these methods. Examinations are graded on the scale ?A, B, C, D, E, F?.
