Specific admission requirements:

The admissions procedure consists of talent examinations and a verification of theoretical knowledge at least in the extent of a Bachelor?s State Final Examination in the field of Audio-Visual Studies. The candidate demonstrates developed talent, wide and current knowledge of the field, creativity on the basis of a presented work in a selected medium, and independence in co-creating his/her study programme on the basis of the Master?s project, which summarises the candidate?s ideas about the contents and outputs of the Master?s programme.

Specific arrangements for recognition of prior learning:

The programme does not have any specific requirements for the recognition of prior learning.

The procedure for recognition at AMU is governed by Articles 89 and 90 of the Act on Higher Education Institutions No. 111/1998 Coll., as amended, and by the AMU Attendance and Examination Regulations (Articles 8, 14, 18).

Qualification requirements and regulations

Required qualifications: A completed university education in a Bachelor?s programme in Audio-Visual Studies or in a related field.

Regulations: The Czech education system is governed by the Act on Higher Education Institutions, as amended (Act No. 111/1998 Coll.), and by the internal regulations of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague.

Profil oboru:

The Master?s programme in the field of Audio-Visual Studies follows up on the Bachelor?s programme with emphasis on the development of individual creative activities and on deepening and systematising competencies in independent research work. The programme is focused on the history and theory of intermedia production, creative intermedia production and archiving, restoring and presenting materials of an audio-visual nature.

Key learning outcomes:

The Master?s programme in the field of Audio-Visual Studies is focused on the student?s creative and intellectual development, on deepening his or her knowledge and skills in the relatively individual focus provided by the Master?s project. A marked general feature of the Master?s programme is the interconnection of practical activity and its reflection.

The graduate understands the principles and contexts of audio-visual production in the Czech Republic and abroad, will be able to orientate himself/herself in its historical context and in its contemporary organisational and technological background, and adaptably to find solutions within the scope of specific tasks of production or reflection on the creative process.

Occupational profiles of graduates with examples:

The graduate of the programme in Audio-Visual Studies is a complex creative personality with additional depth of education according to his/her Master?s project. He/she has the prerequisites for further development in the educational and artistic spheres, is able to formulate arguments using established principles, and demonstrates in presented works a particular approach to artistic work, to thinking and to the world. The graduate is prepared for independent creative work which also encompasses reflection on production in the entire audio-visual area. Within the Master?s programme, students can also focus on film restoration. Here, the instruction is based on cooperation between FAMU and the National Film Archive. Graduates can thus apply their skills as qualified professionals in the area of film restoration. They can also work as qualified creators of concepts and realisations, making available artistic works from closer or more distant areas of film history in distribution companies or as curators of intermedia production.

The doctoral programme in the field of Theory of Film and Multimedia Production.

Examination regulations, assessment and grading:

Studies are assessed by credits and examinations stipulated by study plans. The student is informed of these through the information system.

The student registers for examinations using the information system, and is entitled to a second and third attempt to pass an examination. If neither of these attempts proves successful, the Dean may in exceptional cases permit a fourth attempt (administered by a commission). It is not permitted to repeat an examination for the main subjects or to repeat written examinations.

The credit is an ungraded form of assessment of studies. It is allocated upon fulfilment of requirements stipulated for individual subjects and is recorded in the information system with the word ?Credited? (Z). An examination is a graded form of assessment of studies, which tests knowledge and level of creativity in the relevant subject. In the main subjects, examinations are administered by a commission. An examination may be practical, written, oral, or involve a combination of these methods. Examinations are graded on the scale ?A, B, C, D, E, F?.

The student fulfils the requirements set by the study plan.
