Learning outcomes of the course unit:

Good knowledge of the fundamental repertoire of the period, basic knowledge of the lesser known works of the period. Knowledge of current events in opera performance studies.

Mode of study:

Instructor lectures, literature study, discussions.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Expanded knowledge of the basic repertoire of this period (including Czech works), orientation in lesser played titles of this period.

Recommended optional programme components:

Watching appropriate performances, television broadcast recordings, DVD screenings.

Course contents:

Verdi, Wagner and his Gesamtkunstwerk, Great Operas, national culture, verismo, R. Strauss, impresionism. Song and Cantata creations of that period.
