Learning outcomes of the course unit:

In this final course all principles are repeated which arise in bassoon playing at least from the students perspective. The student must be able to designate and demonstrate an abililty to explain all attributes. This regards primarily principles in corret fingering technique, breathing exercises, tone and intonation. An emphasis is placed on knowledge in interpretation of modern or non-traditional techniques and forms in compositions which are arranged into study. The graduate demonstrates above all their music sense and personality.

Mode of study:

On-going participation of students in auditions for symphonic and opera orchestras.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Instrument skills corresponding to the student study year and profile.

Recommended optional programme components:

Chamber literature for duets, trios, and other combinations of wind, string, keyboard and percussion instruments.

Course contents:

In this final course all bassoon playing aspects are repeated which may arise in playing from the students point of view. Students learn to formulate playing issues. They learn to resolve all combinations of problem which exist in practice. The student is guided so they may be able in their pedagogic track to analyze reality and extrapolate conclusions. Student are guided in understanding the dramaturgy of a concert and psychological aspects of a soloist. They must be able to designate all attributes and demonstrate the ability to explain them. Compositions played, demonstrate above all music sense, one's personality. The student is prepared for an independent career. Their opinions are challenged by the opinions of the professors and directed to the correct or appropriate area. The course works with the student as with a exceptional music personality who has no apparent problems with playing the instrument. They have a high technique level, good tone, intonation and interpretive skills. These are conditions to weather well soloist, chamber and orchestra auditions. This course continues the established path from the previous course and mainly the personal original activities, bassoon technique, tone quality, intonation, shift in direction to the „perfect“ form. The aim is to master the highest level and most compositions for bassoon. International competitions are a good guide for composition selection. Compositions by Hindemith, Spisak, Teml, Šestak, Mozart, Kozeluh and of the 21st Century and present may be arranged for instruction even if not used in the graduation concert.

Assessment of instrumental and orchestral specifics of playing, fulfilling establish repertoire range, review in AKS, concluded with award of credit.
