Learning outcomes of the course unit:

Through easier etudes and recital pieces all playing deficiencies are identified and defined. In this course the optimal path is found for correction.

1. Finding a path to the removal of those deficiencies.

2. Defining proper technique prinicples, conscious mastery of each finger

3. Advancing in proper breathing technique, breathing exercises.

4. Etudes focused on rhythm, intonation nad metric precision - Koehler, Fuerstenau, Hahoecker

5. List of recital pieces is expanded to more difficult compositions - T. Albinoni, K. Stamic, F.A. Rosetti, G. Saminartini, B.H. Crussel.

Mode of study:

On-going participation in symphony and opera orchestra auditions.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Instrument skills at the level corresponding to the study year and student profile.

Recommended optional programme components:

Chamber literature of duets, trios and other combinations of wind, string, keyboard and percussion instruments.

Course contents:

This course provides the students with technique, tone quality, intonation and performance skills to withstand well competition in the soloist, chamber and orchestral music fields. The course guides the future artist to independence, fulfillment of their own ideas and defense of their thoughts. Considering that each student has differing skills in reacting to new situations, or has other physical talents for mastering individual aspects of playing, individual paths for each are chosen which allows for the quick learning of proper habits and eliminating everything that is not part of oboe playing. The course intent is to find the proper road to removing these deficiencies, improving proper techniqe, continuing in the practice of proper breathing, etc. Rhythmic, intonation and metric precision is practiced in etudes - F. Capelle: 20 etudes, F. Gillet: Staccato and interval etudes. Students learn to master individual fingers such they they will be able with any of them to hold any and every tone which seems important or interesting to emphasize. In high-Classic works oboe playing technique becomes more precise but also learned is the structure of a classic concert and the nature of music. The selection of recital pieces are oriented towards the works of T. Albinoni, K. Stamic, F.A. Rosetti, G. Saminartini, B.H. Crussel, etc. An effort to master all attributes of playing the instrument at the most equal levels is necessary.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods:

Participation of students in auditions for symphonic and opera orchestras.

Assessment methods and criteria:

Evaluation of instrument and orchestra playing, completion of the established repertoire, AKS verification, all concluded with the award of credit.
