Learning outcomes of the course unit:

This course provides students with an awareness of orchestral literature and practices the most important solos with which an orchestra musician may encounter. In each course all composers are gradually shown as well as their significant orchestra flute solos.. This course works with domestic and foreign edition of orchestra studies and specialized parts for orchestras in the Czech Republic ((ČF, FOK, SOČR, ND).

Wind instrument duet and trio chamber literature.

Course contents:

This course provides students with an awareness of orchestral literature and practices the most important solos with which an orchestra musician may encounter. This course practices orchestra parts from world symphonic and opera works - L. van Beethoven, W.A.Mozart, Beethoven orchestras, sound, color and concept of playing are different from the classical orchestra sound. This course instruction in the interpretation of Beethoven and Mozart interpretations. This course explains the particulars of orchestra playing and what demands are placed on the musician. Various instrument intonations are instructed. This course clarifies bassoon, clarinet, oboe and other instrument tuning principles. Intonation color, some color tunings are also an important aspect of playing in an orchestra. The playing dynamics in an orchestra are also of a different nature. For example, a solo needs to be played one dynamic higher than written, etc. The difference in playing in opera orchestras and symphony orchestras is also described and practiced. Sound examples of various performances of one composition are also presented using the same conductor with various orchestras or the same orchestra with various conductors.

On-going attendance in symphonic and opera orchestra auditions.

Assessment methods and criteria:

Evaluation of the particulars of orchestral performance. Fulfillment of the established repertoire. AKS certification. All concluded by the award of credit.
