Learning outcomes of the course unit:

This course provides students with all practical and education methodology skills which are needed for reed production or modification. A reed is one of the most important elements for creating tone and playing the Clarinet. This course summarizes all knowledge covered during study. Students display their knowledge. During the study all Clarinet reed production and modification issues are explained. This course reviews and practices everything. It is necessary to compare wood quality individually and select the most appropriate modification. Principles regarding modifying tips, centers and edges, reeds, opposite sides and to go through potential modifications in the production of various reeds. Students are guided towards independence and proper decisions regarding possible modification selection and with what tool. Students are guided to management of these issues.

Clarinet class student playing with reeds they have modified.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Reed modification according to style particulars, flexibility for higher tones, extreme dynamics and double-staccato.
