Pivotal dance types recording domestically in the 19th century presenting the cultural dance range which marks and is befitting to the historical context. The instruction aim is, based on dance notation in classical collections, to trace the folkdance repertoire in its changes in space and time. This covers the interpretation of dance notation, and understanding of the foundations of individual dance types and the nature of its variation.

The aim of the course is to provide students with an idea of the changes in folkdance in relation to period and geographic space. As well, the students are introduced to the basic source material for the study of Czech folkdance (collections of folkdances) and learn how to work with them (reconstruction of the live form of the dance from notation). In instruction theory and practice are combined. In the first semester the main content is dance reels as a sample type of turning dance, and types of three-beat dances (minet, sousedska). Thes are researched from the viewpoint of the changes over time, variation in movement material, meter and number and groups of dancers. Instruction includes: Old types of pair dances, whose foundation is the turning of the pair in place and improvisation - turning dances in a circle - in 3/4 and 2/4 meter. Chodsko, Southern Bohemia Dance whose foundation is the emphasized turning of pairs gradually from place to place - Vrtak, Skocna, Dvoukrochak.

Imitating dances with satyrical content - Furiant
with craftsmen topics - Miller, Shoemaker, Weaver.
Dances whose basis is community games: Trojicova, Kshandy, Myslivichek: Groups - Kaplanka, Kontratanc.
Dances with changing meters
Dances with firm or semi-firm connections to musical accompaniment - Dupak, Placava, Kalamajka, Rzhezanka, Manchester.
