Learning outcomes of the course unit:

Expansion of dance style characteristics of folklore regions. Dance styles of the Czech national revival. Methodical instruction in high Czech lifts.

Mode of study:

Method preparations for the instruction of folk dance for the 6th study year. Creation of model instruction lessons according to dance conservatory curricula.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Completion of Folkdance Methods 4.

Recommended optional programme components:

An elective element is, at least one, visit to a forklore performance or festival during study. The International Folklore Festival in Strážnice is recommended.

Course contents:

Target work at the barre: In later study years the work at the barre is reduced in frequency. The students learn to use this work with a target and for the technical masterz of complex dance steps. The are more complex combinations of shifts, heel stamps, half-toe and whole foot. Individual movement motifs of the Slovacko Verbuňk.

More complex motifs of folkdance: Czech national polka (from the national rebirth period) in various pair holdsa manners of execution. Steps and motifs of the Furiant (from various regions - Hradecký, Polabský, Horácký), Hanácká walk, polka and run, Starodavný dance steps from Valašsko and Lašsko, Lašsko Mazurkas (running, stamping, in two steps, with pigeon step). Method and technique preparations for Czech high lifts.

Dance repertoire: Jumping and shaking Polka, Southern Bohemia reel, Sousedská with lifts, Špicpolka from Lipenský Záhoří, dances with changing beats (Latovák, Pětičtvrteční, Pádavec), Esmeralda (polka of the national rebirthí), Beseda (Czech salon dance), Starodávný, Trojke, Cófavá, Odzemek, Ondraš, Karičky (other dance motifs, more complex rhythmic and spatial ornaments).

Continuation of methodic preparations of folk dance instruction for 6th year students. Creation of model instruction lessons. Futher improvement of dance technique. Difficult dance variations for developing coordination. Expanding the styling characteristics of dances from folklore regions. Dance styles of the Czech national renaissance. Methodic instruction in high Czech lifts.

Assessment methods and criteria:

Preparations for instruction of folkdance for 6th year students, creation of a model instruction lesson. Preparations of dance variations with firm and not firm relations to the music accompaniment. Simplification of variations and other adjustments to prepared figures.
