Learning outcomes of the course unit:

The course aim is to guide the student in the field of „so-called“ ethnic music and develop skills in independent bearing in the music of „other“ cultures.

Mode of study:

Analyses of audio and video examples, text analyses, disussions.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Credit conditions: Paper over a selected topic in the history and methodology of the study.

Course contents:

The lectures provide an overview and basic orientation in music outside of European artificial music. This course covers the music of natural nations, music outside of European high culture and the folklore of European nations. The instruction is focused primarily on listening to music of various world cultures with an accent on an analytical approach and cultivation of skills in understanding music thought principles outside of the European music paradigm. Part of the instruction are probes into the history and methodology of the study.
