- Learning outcomes of the course unit:

Recognition of longer melodic forms (Baroque, Classical and Romanc themes).
Development of skills in analysing complex forms of 20th century music.
Gradual systematic creation of skills of relational listening, chromatic based on the given relative tone (ex: chamber „a“).
Auditory bearing in Classical-Romantic harmony systems.
Development of ability to audibly perceive a complex arranged music phrase (melody, harmony, rhythm, instrumentation, formal plan).
- Mode of study:

Work at the piano, primarily with the assistance of recordings, in dictation. Working with recordings enables perception of structures in original contexts and simulates music director situations in the studio.
- Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Talent for listening. Basic listening and intonation training at the conservatory level and successfull completion of the course in the previous study year.

In listening to music one actively includes their analytical perception of the music (ex; become aware of the interval structure of the music theme, harmonic relationships, perceiving the instrumentation and formal creation of musical phrases, etc.).
- Course contents:

Longer melody dictations. Themes from Baroque and Romance literature and newer music (20th century). Working with recordings.
Practicing the ability to recognize individual tones based on the given relative tone at all levels.
Recognizing harmonic function by listening. Dictations at the piano in four part harmonic examples.
Recognizing instruments in an ensemble. Recognizing less common instruments.

Notation material and recordings. Examples from the music literature: Sonata, symphony and other compositions, primarilay from the Baroque, Classical and Romantic periods.

Credit is awarded based on: results of a dictation and overall evaluation of the ability to recognize through listening a music structure.
