Learning outcomes of the course unit:

The course aim is to demonstrate abilities in independent critical activity in music semiotics topics through course papers and joining in discussions during classes.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

A condition is concurrent registration in Semiotics of Music 1.

Recommended optional programme components:

No elective requirements.

Course contents:

In the class portion of the Semiotics of Music course, students complete a course paper on a topic of their choice from the following topics list:

Music and expression

Music and emotion

Music and theory forms

Intention and non-intention in a music work

Music and allegory

Naturalness and conventionalism of music expression tools.

Recommended instructions for selection of topic, critically working with literature and writing technique (proper citation, paraphrasing techniques for foreign texts, notations, etc.):

To receive credit, the student must fulfill 100% of the required criteria which are proportionally divided into:

Course work: 50%

Class participation, ability and desire to discuss: 25%

Class attendance: 25% (attendance much exceed half of the classes).
