This course develops the material covered in Theatre in Wester Culture and Theatre in Czech Culture. In the Summer semester it focuses on selected chapters in the history of Czech theatre from the national revival to the present. These topices are covered:
The national revival and the present
The National Theatre founding generation
The Czech Modern in directing and acting (Kvapil, Vojan, Hilar)
Czech inter-war drama (Čapek, Langer).
The Czech Avant Garde (Honzl, F. Grejka, Burian)
Theatre and personalities of the 1960s (Radok, Grossman, Krejča, Drama club)
Original and studio theatre of the 1970s-80s
Tendencies and issues of Czech theatre at the beginning of the 21st century.
An emphasis is placed on the independent completion of topic in a course paper.

Classes. Development and defense of the course paper (min. 8 pgs.) developing an assigned topic with the aid of archive material. Review and continual assignment of literature. Exam on the material covered.
- Assessment methods and criteria:

The graded course paper on a selected topic is supplemented by an exam which is to check the elementary knowledge of a given period of Czech and World theatre.
