Mode of study:

1) Duet: two dancers rehearse techniques: copying the movement of the partner, movement repetition, extracting movement, eye contact with a partner in movement, changing of movement roles with a partner, rolling with a partner, giving the weight of the body onto the body of a partner with emphasis on the setting of the center of both partners, supporting places, spoons, skying, leading a partner by the wrist (tai-chi), hanging outside an axis point with a partner, giving implulses to a partners body, etc.

These techniques are saved in the dancers' muscle memory in order to be later used as a manner of movement improvisation with a partner.

2) Group improvisation includes exercises: walking and other dancer group movement in large-small spaces, walking and other dancer group movments around a circle, in the center of a circle, in the exact center, leading a group by one dancer in walking and other movements to a space, group improvisation, which originates in solo and pair improvisation with an emphasis on the perception of the situation, the setting and movement of a group which continuously changes, entering and exiting the group improvisation according to desire and feeling of individual dancers.

3) Creating a choreography

Movement as a duet or in a group may be set in a choreography based on the same principle and similar reasons as in the creation of a choreogrphy based on a solo improvisation in the Winter semester.

In a contact improvisation we work in silence or music is used: such as in backdrop 2, as a partner or the dancers. Music may inspire and be reacted to. At the end of each lesson the dancers are one-by-one left to improvise on a given topic while the others watch. Afterwards, we discuss the results of how it appeared to the audience and the players whoc improvised.

Course contents:

In the Summer semester the dancers work with a partner in a duet. Instruction also in group improvisation and creating a choreography based on duet or group improvisation.

Assessment methods and criteria:

Instruction methods for Movement Technique and Modern Dance:

1) A regular class 2 hours per week developing the management of the contact improvisation movement technique principles.

2) A week-long workshop in the Winter or Summer semester exam period, in which additional work is devoted to the Limon-Cunningham techniques and Contact improvisation so the creation of more complex and longer movement compositions and choreographies in those techniques are learned. The student will be able to remember the resulting form and set the movement which arise in improvisation into a choreography.

Grading method and criteria are the same for both movement technique and modern dance:

Winter semester

100% class attendance 2 hours per week and at the week-long workshop arrange during the exam period.

Completion of the test at the end of the semester for the receipt of credit.

Summer semester:

100% class attendance 2 hours per week and at the week-long workshop arrange during the exam period.

Completion of the test at the end of the semester for the receipt of credit as an exam.
