Learning outcomes of the course unit:

Students, upon completion of the course, will have a good bearing in the basic copyright law and the most frequent applications in Theatre.

Students recognize, at a basic level, an original work or artistic performance and will be aware of the potential manners and extent of protection, used in practice; ex: in concluding copyright, particularly licencing agreements for their work and performances.

The course is available to al AMU students with no requirements. It is recommended particularly for DAMU studies.

Course contents:

The application of copyright is one of the most complex legal areas encountered in any theatre.

The course acquaints students with the basics of copyright which is comprised of, in particular:

- a definition (recognition) of copyright

- other related copyrights

- protection period

- personal and property law

- providing permission for the use of an original work (licencing agreement)

- free use, statutory licence

- collective administration

Planned learning activities and teaching methods:

This course is comprised of a series of four theory lectures supplemented with case study analyses.

Assessment methods and criteria:

To successfully complete the course a credited oral exam where the student's understanding of the issues will be verified.
