- Learning outcomes of the course unit:

To teach students to consider theatre in relation to other arts disciplines and in cultural and societal contexts. To connect ideas about theatre to the context of other - philosophic, religious, scientific, and political thought currents. To exercise creation and formulation based on an analysis of not only the work itself but also societal contexts.
To guide students in writing essays at a good level. To cultivate overlaps of trades writings with writings for a wider public. To recognize and avoid thought and language cliches.

Discussions on cultural performances: exhibitions, literature, film, radio and particularly theatre in all of its functions. Assignment and assessment of written tasks supplementing history and theory knowledge. Aanlysis of the verbal aspect of the work.

This course is understood as a meeting about artistic works in the effort to appreciate their purpose and significance in the context of other society events, in current arts events transforming the season.
Fundamentally: Theatricality and drama in media (ex: World and Czech Press Photo)
Dramaturgy as an idea; analysis of the dramaturgy of selected theatres in several seasons.
The function of theatre and how it appears in critical assessments (not only entertainment but also performance, and social, political, anthropological and other theatre functions).
Participation in theatre, film and radio festivals and their reviews.

- Assessment methods and criteria:

Students must have a knowledge of the history of theatre and theatre critique. They must be able to find a bearing in cultural trends and styles, be able to classify national art in (at least) a European context. They must have at least an average knowledge of the fundamentals of religion.
Students must have analysis, review and learnedness skills.
A condition for good and excellent grades is publication in cultural periodicals.
