Learning outcomes of the course unit:

The course aim is to acquaint students to theories of interpretation and arts critique which stresses the plurality of possible „proper“ interpretations of one artistic writing.

Mode of study:

Classes are based on the careful reading of leading professional writings.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

The requirement for registration is the completion of Critique Theory III.

Recommended optional programme components:

No elective requirements.

Course contents:

Definition: This course is focused on a discussion of the concept of arts critique which affirms that we must allow there to exist multiple and acceptable interpretations of a work of art.

Curriculum:

2. Interpretation and critique as a transcription of a text by another text - R. Barthes

3. Interpretation and critique as persuasion and not discovery - S. Fish

4. How to understand the concept „objectivity of critical judgement?“
