The Avion workshop is targeted to FAMU students and other film and advertising professionals that are interested to get to know more about stereoscopy, digital shooting, 3D Stereo and post production processes in real life.

There are various advantages for students participating in the module. They will have a quality overview of the whole post production processes - will see the post studio and suites in operation, will learn some important concepts of digital shooting and stereoscopy and will have a chance to get „hands on“ with 3D work. Most importantly they will see the technology used in real life and get a clear overview of the processes involved. They can use their knowledge in the future positions within the film and advertising market and use the technologies introduced to them within this workshop.

The workshop will be led by Fred Meyers, Avion´s Director of Engineering and digital shooting expert, well known for his experience from working on, for example: Avatar, Star wars series, Terminator 2, Red Tails etc...Fred will introduce the workshop; will talk about 3D stereo processes and will supervise the live shooting.

We are also delighted to welcome Sebastian Cramer from Screenplane a leading service provider for 3D content and equipment developer to give a speech and show students the advantages of 3D camera rig.

This will be followed by Viktor Lonek´s talk - owner of VideoAssist Rental, who will manage the viewing and recording on set. Material will be fed live to several 3D TVs, allowing stereo monitoring of the shooting process.

Afterwards, once the students have completed shooting a scene on their own, successful shots will be chosen for processing upstairs in Avion's Pablo suite. Material will be edited together, color timed and finishing touches applied to the 3D Stereo by Geoffrey Case, Avion?s project supervisor and colorist with experience from films like Outpost, Hunger, Bathory etc...

This part of the workshop will include comments by Jiri Sindelar, Avion´s visual effects supervisor, who will also present some short 3D stereo and 2D/3D conversion clips completed at Avion. Time permitting, the Avion team will create a DCP from the completed workshop shoot material, in hopes that after the workshop, participants will be able to see the results of their ?own 3D film? at the Atlas Cinema.

Other invited professionals from film and advertising industry can get a close look and sense of working with the technologies for their use. We tend to focus on camera assistants, because they have the closest contact with technologies we wish to present. FAMU students can also see the way camera assistants work and gain from their experience.

To conclude, the module should bring an interesting insight for both experienced professionals as well as FAMU students, as well as bring out the technologies many challenges, and show them how they best might use the latest 3D Stereo technology.
