1. Music in Audio-visual pieces
The first lectures are devoted to the use of music in the film industry, particularly in documentary and feature films, advertisements and TV programs.
The aim is to introduce the potential licensing of music, forms of music dramaturgy, contemporary trends in film music and practice.
Students will be acquainted with the potential use of composed music and music libraries. The reason for the rise of music libraries, the positives and negatives and their current position in audio-visual pieces will be explained. During instruction, emphasis will be placed on practice, primarily on the process of creating an audio-visual piece in connection to music and sound.
Presentation of the music search engine: hudebnibanka.cz which is available to FAMU students through a framework agreement. Students will be able to use hudebnibanka.cz and use compositions appropriate for their projects in instruction. Part of the lectures will be supplemented by critical listenings to samples, discussions with students and for questions.
2. Copyright in practice
The second part of the lectures will be devoted to some aspects of copyright, primarily its practical cases in film (and generaly audio-visual) pieces and the artistic professions. We will cover the rise, duration and expiration of copyright protection, elements of copyright, separation of copyright and rights related to copyright, licence agreements and their requirements, exceptions and limitations to copyright, particulars of the copyrights to audio-visual pieces (AVD). In the practical, model cases of the use of music in AVD and pitfall associated with them. In this section we will, also, cover the role of the collective management of copyright (OSA, Intergram, Dilia, etc.)
