The study aim is a clarification of current Czech documentaries, not only films presented on Czech television, film festivals or cinemas but on the boundaries of television production genres which use documentary elements (reality shows, docu-dramas, docu-soaps).

On-going vision of Czech documentary production. Students have assigned selected films which present examples and commentary. Discussions over individual films with an emphasis on determining problematic elements.

Completion of History of Czech Cinema.

No elective requirements for this course. A good orientation in Czech cultural and historical relationships and, as well, current socio-political issues is required.
- Course contents:

In this course the student should take a stance regarding exemplary examples of contemporary Czech documentaries. The course originates in the on-going history of Czech documentaryies after 1989. It does not only concentrate on artistically significant works but rather maps the entire current creations including examples from a wide variety of TV series, Czech versions transitioned to TV formats and degrading programs using documentary elements. The course design gives preference to current Czech creations, and its aim is to continuously guide attention to new Czech productions. With particular films, the course focuses on the conditions in which they arose, reasons they have arisen and what they represent in the Czech context and taking into consideration extra-film circumstances as well. The course is space for enabling discussion and continuously identifying the relationship between documentary works and the reality of society.
