Learning outcomes of the course unit:

The students task is to attend all lectures and classes and correct alone their film exercise. Students are, in this manner, to learn how to use the post-production potential of colorgrading on the FinalCutPro color corrector.

Mode of study:

Theoretical lectures appended with practical examples from teacher´s archive. Students have the opportunity to be acquainted with professional coloristic experience. Later they use gained knowledge on their school practical assignments under the teacher´s supervision.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Previous knowledge of basics of Colorimetry and Sensitometry. Students are familiar with Adobe software such as Photoshop and FinalCut Pro.

Course contents:

The course is focused on theory and practice testing of issues in post-production processing and coloring an image with a color corrector based on FinalCutPro 2K/4K, FCP2K, FCP4K, the technology and variations in corrections in SDTV, HDTV, DC2K, DC4K.

The instructor has up to date experience with these technologies for finalization and colorgrading images of professional feature films on 35mm laser copied to 35mm from DVCAM sources has prepared instructional examples from these projects. Instruction is supplemented by examples from those films from 35mm copies for the cinema screen.

Course Description: Seminar will focus on the work of Cinematographer as a leading artistic Director of Photography in process of Postproduction to finish and control final look of Picture. Students will focus on the work with postproduction grading system Color Corrector using software FinalCut Pro. This program contains possibilities for improving or totally changing the look of your DV, HD or Film project. Director of Photography Marek Jicha will share his recent experiences making feature 35mm films with different technologies.
