Learning outcomes of the course unit:

Managment of fundamental skills in creating a lighting construction in the studio and on location.

Mode of study:

Analysis of the submitted screenplay for the Nůž Anticorro exercise prior to shooting at the FAMU Studio.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Knowledge of all types of light sources and their characteristics. Management of creating a light-tone image treatment with use of the sensitometric characteristics of negative stock.

Course contents:

Topic:

1. GENERAL INTRODUCTION TO LIGHTING II.

The program and aims of the lectures, consultations and 2nd year practical exercises.

2. LIGHTING SPACE.

The set, placement of light sources, lighting logic, light and the acting movment, use of color gels.

3. BASICS OF LIGHTING TREATMENTS.

Light plans, lighting the set, light source types and characteristics, bridges, film and TV genres.

4. LIGHTING IN FILM AND TELEVISION.

Some differences in the manner of working with light in relation to shooting or sequence technology.

5. LIGHTING CONSTRUCTIONS AND COLOR TELEVISION RECORDING.

Color analysis of the scene, costuming and make-up in relationship to the lighting treatment. Lighting effects shooting on a blue background (Keying)

6. LIGHT CORRECTION ON LOCATION.

Supplemental lighting on location with real light sources, appropriate lights and tools, color gels.

7. LIGHTING EXTERIORS - DAY.

Light character in an exterior, corretion of lighting contrast, types of lamps, reflective boards.

8. Lighting evening and night in an exterior, the character of night lighing and the difference from daytime, dusk characteristics, dawn.

9. Special lighting atmospheres: flames, fires, candles, light in an auto/day, night/, „American Night“, computer monitor on TV, exterior and interior flashes and the like.

Assessment methods and criteria:

Instruction is in the form of theory lectures which are linked to presentations of television and film works of the lecturer or other cameraman. In the practical examples the lecture material is presented. Grading credit is an assessment of how the student learned theory material and how was able to apply it in the exercise „Shootings in the Studio“, „Anticorrosive Knife“, including the quality of the completed report of the „Shootings in the Studio“ exercise.
