Course description:

This course provides a theory and technical foundation for creating small dimension prints.

Theory is devoted to the historical and aesthetic bases of the Latin alphabet, development of graphic design in relation to period styles and thought, and the development of polygraphy. It also provides information regarding current trends in graphic design.

The practical is comprised of the technical basis for layout and composition of simple prints in the InDesign application. This forms a working system with the Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop applications. This also includes a good bearing in typefaces, composition and breaks in single-page documents, smooth composition preparation rules for digital printing.

Tasks: (exercise 2P8)

Winter semester: New Year's card, Dept. of Photography, 210x100 format, two-sided print.

Requirements: Proof sheet from an ink jet or laser jet printer. One piece selected by the dept. commission will be executed using an appropriate polygraphic technique for the Photography Dept.

Summer semester: A poster for a photography exhibit in A2 format - OR -

a booklet for a CD (120x120mm), 8 pps + the back page (142x120)

Requirements: Proof sheet from an ink jet or laser jet printer, A4 format (1), A3 (2).
