Module by Jorge Iglesias

Thanks to its thematic and stylistic diversity, the current Latin American cinema is characterized by a very contemporary use of film language, and its integration to a very creative international community of films and authors.

What is new in today´s New Latin American Cinema? Is it pertinent to use a term applied in the 60's, like in other places of the world, to a group of films of young film makers (leaded by French New Wave)? The module will be dedicated to link the New Latin American Cinema of the 60's and the current (New) Latin American Cinema, and to show what was a coincidence of aesthetic and political avant-garde in that decade reappears today with other clothing and strategies. The representation of the reality in the cinema of the 60's by an aesthetic and political radicalism will be analyzed, with emphasis in the Brazilian cinema, and the bloom of the documentary and its relationship with fiction. The other part of the day will be dedicated to some characteristics of the contemporary Latin American cinema and its experimentation with devices opposed to the mainstream, as well as the employment of space and time and its relationship with montage.

The film that I would to show is Heli (Mexico, 2013), winner of the Prize to the Best Direction of the Festival of Cannes.
