bachelor's programme qualification

Specific admission requirements:

A prerequisite for admission is intensive and deep interest in culture and art, in particular: cinematography, television production, literature and theatre. Basic knowledge of the situation in the contemporary film and television business in the Czech Republic and in the world is verified, including basic specialist terminology in the areas of film and television, as is the candidate?s overall orientation in cultural policy and in the economic and social spheres. Other requirements include a basic orientation in issues of general economics, a good relationship to mathematics and good language skills.

A successful student in the Production Department must also have organisational talent, must be capable of reaching agreement with his/her surroundings and of contributing to others reaching agreement among themselves; natural authority of personality is required. For this reason, the candidate?s personality prerequisites are examined during the admissions process, in particular the ability to make independent assessments and to defend his/her own opinion, as well as any personal experience with organisational work or with work in the field.

Specific arrangements for recognition of prior learning:

The programme does not have any specific requirements for the recognition of prior learning.

The procedure for recognition at AMU is governed by Articles 89 and 90 of the Act on Higher Education Institutions No. 111/1998 Coll., as amended, and by the AMU Attendance and Examination Regulations (Articles 8, 14, 18).

Qualification requirements and regulations

Required qualifications: A completed secondary or a completed secondary vocational education; exceptionally, it is also possible to admit candidates without a completed secondary, a completed secondary vocational or higher vocational education at a conservatory.

Regulations: The Czech education system is governed by the Act on Higher Education Institutions, as amended (Act No. 111/1998 Coll.), and by the internal regulations of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague.

Field of study characterization

The goal of the Bachelor?s programme is to develop academically and professionally educated experts for various levels of managerial and organisational work in producing all types of audio-visual works, including the option to work in organisational and managerial units in various areas of art and culture. The instruction is focused on the whole breadth of the realisation of an audio-visual work, the fundamentals of the production technology of an audio-visual work, distribution, management, and legal and economic issues.

Key learning outcomes:

During their studies, students become familiar with the basics of the history of art, in particular the history of cinematography. In addition to information in the areas of film and television techniques, economics, and the tax and accounting systems, they also acquire extensive knowledge in the area of general law and are familiarised in great detail with issues of copyright. Significant space in the instruction is devoted to the theoretical and practical understanding of the ?technology? of creating and producing an audio-visual work, and to developing the ability to cooperate with the individual professions, including the ability to organise and lead a group. A graduate of the Bachelor?s programme knows how to realise the production of an audio-visual work in the position of executive producer. He/she knows how to describe the basic processes of production work in the film and television areas, line producing, and organisational work in television and other media, and has mastered available approaches and technologies in the field.

Occupational profiles of graduates with examples:

The graduate has acquired relatively broad knowledge in the art studies and social fields, including a broad overview, and is prepared to work in organisational positions in film and television production or in various media organisations and institutions. The knowledge, skills and experience which the student acquires during the programme is at a level which enables him/her to lead independently the complex and demanding production of an audio-visual work such as the realisation of a feature film in the position of executive producer.

Examination regulations, assessment and grading:

Studies are assessed by credits and examinations stipulated by study plans. The student is informed of these through the information system.

The student registers for examinations using the information system, and is entitled to a second and third attempt to pass an examination. If neither of these attempts proves successful, the Dean may in exceptional cases permit a fourth attempt (administered by a commission). It is not permitted to repeat an examination for the main subjects or to repeat written examinations.

The credit is an ungraded form of assessment of studies. It is allocated upon fulfilment of requirements stipulated for individual subjects and is recorded in the information system with the word ?Credited? (Z). An examination is a graded form of assessment of studies, which tests knowledge and level of creativity in the relevant subject. In the main subjects, examinations are administered by a commission. An examination may be practical, written, oral, or involve a combination of these methods. Examinations are graded on the scale ?A, B, C, D, E, F?.
