Learning outcomes of the course unit:

The Alto Flute is extensively used in orchestras and as a solo instrument and other music genres. Considering that the differences in playing the alto flute may be different among students, an individual instruction path is chosen. Study literature is distributed according to student abiliities. Etudes and recitals originate mostly from flute literature. Recitals are oriented to more simple compositions intended for this instrument. As well the view of the student as to why they wish to play the alto flute is decisive for the course methodology.

Instrument skills at the level corresponding to the study year and student profile.

Recommended optional programme components:

Chamber literature of duets, trios and other combinations of wind, string, keyboard and percussion instruments.

Course contents:

The Alto flute is part of many music groups. This instrument is extensively used in orchestras, as a solo instrument and other music genres. This course gradually provides students with all the skills and knowledge needed in playing the alto flute. Students are divided according to their abilities. They are introduced to techniques of how to properly play the alto flute. Considering differences in the students ability in playing the alto flute can be quite diverse, individual paths of instruction are chosen.This individual approach and the acceptance of various skills is the path how to get those less talented to quickly attain a good standard of playing. The study literature is assigned according to student abilities Etudes and recital pieces often come from flute litereature. Recital pieces are oriented towards easier compositions intended for this instrument. The reason the students wish to play the alto flute is also decisive for the course methodology. Not everyone is interested in the alto flute solo track. Many want to play this instrument for practical reasons which are often advantageous in auditions for orchestra places.

Evaluation of instrument and orchestra playing, completion of the established repertoire, AKS verification, all concluded with the award of credit.
