Learning outcomes of the course unit:

This course provides the student with all skills and knowledge needed in Double Bassoon playing. Students acquire a complete overview of Double Bassoon issues. They gain knowledge about playing the instrument from a general view to potential Double Bassoon applications. An emphasis is placed on a gradual comparison of the differences in the playing quality of individual students. The lesser proficient must be put at the level which guarantees professional application. Course literature starts with more challenging compositions for this instrument with piano or orchestra accompaniment or another chamber group. Solo, but particularly orchestral solo literature is studied.

Mode of study:

On-going participation of students in auditions for symphonic and opera orchestras.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Instrument skills corresponding to the student study year and profile.

Recommended optional programme components:

Chamber literature for duets, trios, and other combinations of wind, string, keyboard and percussion instruments.

Course contents:

The Double Bassoon is an instrument present in many music ensembles. Students acquire a complete overview of Double Bassoon issues. They gain knowledge about playing the instrument from a general view to potential Double Bassoon applications. An emphasis is placed on a gradual comparison of the differences in the playing quality of individual students. The lesser proficient must be put at the level which guarantees professional application. As well their pedagogic-method view is supported by instruction. Course literature starts with more challenging compositions for this instrument with piano or orchestra accompaniment or another chamber group. Solo, but particularly orchestral solo literature is studied. A the close of the course all playing issues and an overview of orchestral solos are reviewed. A description is given of the widest selection of Double Bassoon literature.

Assessment of instrumental and orchestral specifics of playing, fulfilling establish repertoire range, review in AKS, concluded with award of credit.
