Learning outcomes of the course unit:

The study aim is to a) acquire a comprehensive and contiual overview of individual eras in the development of music history, b) knowledge of the biography of some selected figures and works by composers and c) an idea of the formal forms hidden under the names of some music compositions, and possibly what style eras they largely belong to.

Mode of study:

Lecture, sample analysis from selected media recordings (CD, DVD, etc,) sending study texts to individual students.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Completion of DTH 1 and DTH 2.

Recommended optional programme components:

Development of an autobiography of a selected composer. Monitor of music events and operations at AMU and public music events.

Course contents:

The dance arts are directly connected to music. Particularly at the levels of tempo, rhythm and links to melodic and other music fabric (phrasing, expression, harmony, etc.). The course explains the historical journey of music and its selected figures in relation to the instruction of technique and theory expressed by music and its indispensable historical phases with an emphasis on the currently used tools.

3. The blossoming of the bel canta (Rossini, Donizetti, Bellini)

4. Music of the New Romance (partial) - Hector Berlioz, F. Liszt.

Credit is awarded based on: an oral exam which comprises a) knowledge of the biography and works of at least two significant composers from the given list, b) a survey of the material covered according to assigned study texts, c) one component test during the semester.
