In the class portion of the Semiotics of Music course, students complete a course paper on a topic of their choice from the following topics list:
Music and expression
Music and emotion
Music and theory forms
Intention and non-intention in a music work
Music and allegory
Naturalness and conventionalism of music expression tools.

Course work: 50%
Class participation, ability and desire to discuss: 25%
